According to the Council for Textile Recycling, textile waste accounts for 5 percent of U.S. landfill space. The EPA reports that in 2013, over 12 million tons of textiles and clothing were discarded. Many blame the availability of cheap clothing from so-called fast-fashion retailers such as H&M.
