1 in 3 gaming professionals believe advance of mobile gaming key issue in next five years

BOSTON, Oct. 13, 2011FreeCause today released results of its survey of gaming professionals conducted at Game Developers Conference Online 2011, held this past week in Austin, TX. When questioned about which issue would have the biggest impact on the gaming industry in the next five years, respondents identified mobile platforms (33%) above all other available choice options, including competition/saturated market (25%), integration of social networking features (16%), changing profile of gaming user (14%), and successful eCommerce monetization (10%).  

The 10-question survey queried gaming professionals on a variety of topics,  including the size of game’s user base, methods for interacting with users when not playing the game, issues effecting gaming industry, and eCommerce monetization. Other key survey findings include:

  • Acquiring new users (37%) topped building game/company brand (23%) as top current issue
  • 62% of respondents operate games with user bases under 100,000 users
  • 76% of games are accessed by console versus mobile (53%) and tablets (26%)
  • Email is the primary method for interacting with users when they are not playing game (62%)
  • 57% of games do not monetize their eCommerce

 

The electronic survey was conducted during GDC Online Expo hours on both October 11th and 12th.
