Is cryptocurrency the new reward for loyalty?
There are many ways to reward loyal customers, and the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, is adding to the list. A recent article on CMO.com.au, revealed that the university just completed a trial in which customers were rewarded with cryptocurrency instead of points. The cryptocurrency was through Ether, which is second to Bitcoin in cryptocurrency market capital. The article called cryptocurrency “the biggest game-changer to hit customer loyalty programs since the introduction of frequent flyer points more than 30 years ago.”
 
Difficult Stretch Continues at Papa John’s
It’s been a difficult past few months for Papa John’s. In November, founder John Schnatter made some controversial remarks regarding national anthem protests by NFL players and attributed sinking sales to league officials’ handling of the demonstrations. Papa John’s is a top NFL sponsor and advertiser. Last month, Papa John’s announced Schnatter would step down and be replaced by Chief Operating Officer Steve Ritchie. And this week, Papa John’s, the world’s third-largest pizza delivery company, announced that Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer Lance Tucker will leave the company on March 2 to assume the role of Chief Financial Officer at Jack in the Box Inc. Despite the changes, the company is still pushing forward. We recently spoke with SVP of Global Marketing Robert Thompson about the company’s ongoing and relentless pursuit of digital excellence and brand advocacy.
 
Ryder Names New Chief Information Officer
Ryder System Inc., a leader in commercial fleet management, dedicated transportation, and supply chain solutions, this week appointed Rajeev Ravindran as Chief Information Officer. Ravindran is responsible for all aspects of Ryder’s IT organization, including the technology, vision, strategy, and execution of Ryder’s key IT platforms and systems. Ryder has been named among Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies, and garnered several awards at the Loyalty360 Customer Awards two months ago in Nashville. We caught up with VP of Global Marketing, Customer Loyalty and Insights Samuel Johnson during the inaugural Customer Expo where we talked about Ryder’s awards haul and the keys the company’s successful approach.
