The latest news in the world of customer experience and customer loyalty.

It’s a Bad Day for…
Brookstone. Chapter 11 has found its way over to the Brookstone brand this week. The brand will shutter all 101 of its stores in malls across the United States and officially file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. With mall traffic continuing to decline, Brookstone has been hit hard by the shifts in consumers over the last few years. According to the CNBC report, Brookstone will still likely operate its 35 airport stores and e-commerce and wholesale businesses, but they do hope to sell them. This is the lowest mall traffic has been since 2012 and it will be something to keep an eye on for other retailers who are being effected by the decreased traffic.

It’s a Parasitic Day for…
Kroger, Walgreen’s, and Trader Joe’s salads. It has been the summer of botulism, salmonella, and cyclospora. Now, cyclospora has made another guest appearance inside of Trader Joe's, Kroger, and Walgreen's recall
of 25 salad and wrap products. If you’ve eaten a salad or wrap at one of these locations in the last few weeks, and experience “intestinal distress,” that could be the root cause. The parasite usually makes it way out of you in about a week, so not to worry, you aren’t dying, you’re just not making any trips out with your friends for a weekend. On a serious note, there has been an influx of food-borne illnesses this summer. Perhaps this is something brands need to look into in terms of food safety.
