Google Sees When You’re Sleeping, Knows When You’re Awake
Yesterday, AP released its new findings regarding Google’s tracking policies. An Associated Press investigation found that many Google services on Android devices and iPhones store your location data even if you’ve used a privacy setting that says it will prevent Google from doing so. Typically, Google is relatively straightforward in terms of its tracking. For example, if you use their Google Maps feature, they will ask you for permission to use your location and send you a “timeline” history of where you’ve been. However, this is not always true. According to the report, “Even with Location History paused, some Google apps automatically store time-stamped location data without asking.” Technically, a user can stop Google from doing this but it is extremely laborious. Google says it is being up front about everything but users are heated about the lack of full disclosure. Hey, you can always throw your phone away, kick it old school.

McDonald’s Gets High Tech
McDonald’s “Experience of the Future” initiative has brought about a brand new high tech restaurant in Chicago. The 19,000 square foot high tech location in Chicago includes, “self-order kiosks, table service, mobile ordering and payment and delivery, as well as an increased focus on hospitality through what the company calls guest experience leaders.” Currently, there are 5,000 of these “experience” restaurants located throughout the US. Most of them will be completely converted by 2020. The moves appears to be a new appeal to a younger generation of consumer, one that enjoys the “sleeker,” things in life. The new locations are very similar to Apple stores, which we all know are hot spots for younger generations. It will be interesting to see what the reaction is to McDonald’s new strategy.
