BarkBox is Proving That as a Business, It’s Nothing to Bark At
What’s more loyal than a dog? Well, nothing. That was kind of a trick question. But dog lovers might come in a close second. As evidence, we bring you BarkBox, the online subscription service that sends dog lovers a box filled with treats and toys for their dogs each month. A recent article on CNBC noted that while other subscription services such as meal kit supplier Blue Apron and beauty product supplier BirchBox are struggling as people are unsubscribing, BarkBox has 500,000 subscribers and a 95 percent retention rate. The 6-year-old company has sent more than 70 million products to its customers—or, really, their dogs. That’s a lot of squeaky toys. And a lot of loyalty.

Valpak Is Packing Its Blue Envelopes with Coupons—and Cash
So direct mail has taken a hit thanks to the digital world and all it has to offer, but Valpak may have found the perfect way to get people to open its blue envelopes each month: Cash. As noted in a recently story in USAToday, the brand is stashing $100 checks in random envelopes each month in all 150 markets that it serves. It’s done this in select markets in the past, but not its entire area. Your odds of winning are roughly 1 in 50,000, which are pretty slim. Still, can you actually resist NOT open the envelope to find out?

Great American Cookies Aims to Take the Stress Out of Tax Day
Nothing helps ease stress like a cookie and a glass of milk. That’s what Great American Cookies thinks, anyway. That’s why the national cookie retailer is offering free Cookies and Cream cookies on that Great American Stress Day—April 17, aka the day your taxes are due. “Tax Day can be a bit of a bummer so our annual cookie freebie is our way of ‘sharing the fun of cookies’ and helping everyone take a delicious bite out of Tax Day stress,” says David Kaiser, Executive Vice President of Great American Cookies. “Our new Cookies and Cream Cookie is sure to delight and we invite everyone to join us on Tuesday, April 17.” By the way, the brand describes its Cookies and Cream cookie as a “dreamy combination of vanilla cookie with premium chocolate sandwich cookie pieces and white chocolate chips.” You’re on your own for the glass of milk, though.
